Job Summary

Pasadena United Methodist is a congregation dedicated to intentional relationships with the community and relies on a well-organized office to handle day-to-day operations with a focus on digital communication. In addition to the responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will be comfortable using technology and working with a diversity of people.

 

Work Schedule & Compensation

This is a parttime, hourly, position, requiring 20-22 hours per week. Hours must be worked between 9:00 AM and 5 PM. Paid vacation and sick leave available after the 90-day probationary period.

 

Location

Pasadena United Methodist 61 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena MD.

 

Supervision/Reporting

This position works under the direct supervision of the Pastor.

 

Qualifications

  • Two Years’ Experience OR Some College OR certification as an Administrative Professional

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member

  • Strong technology skills, including MS Office – Publisher, Word, PowerPoint & Excel

  • Willing to learn new computer applications such as website management

  • Experience maintaining sensitive information and confidentiality. Violations of confidentiality can result in termination

  • Strong organization skills and ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks

  • Command of English composition for print and digital communication

  • Strong communication skill verbal, print and digital

Principal Responsibilities

  • Support the Pastor

    1. Work with the Pastor and various committees in pursuit of church goals and objectives.

    2. Maintain knowledge of church policies, procedures, programs, and outreach efforts.

    3. Timely communication of all pertinent conversations and/or requests to the pastor.

    4. Prepare worship bulletins as directed; ensuring dates and other information is accurate before printing.

    5. Notify Pastor of all hospitalizations, deaths, or serious illnesses.

    6. Prepare print and digital communications as directed by pastor.

 

  • Internal Communications

    1. Serve as first contact for church visitors and vendors in person, phone, and e-mail. Answering questions, aiding and/or referring to the needed person or resource coordinator.

    2. Maintain and coordinate church calendar and events in relationship with the Pastor’s calendar

    3. Maintain church bulletin boards

    4. Support committees and ministries, as directed by Pastor.

 

  • External Communications aka Digital Storytelling

    1. Maintain and update the church website, PasadenaUMChurch.com

    2. Assist with managing PUMC’s social media presence, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

    3. Update PUMC’s digital sign

    4. Assist with creating flyers and other media for church ministries

    5. Produce church electronic newsletter

 

  • General Office Responsibilities

    1. Receive and process all incoming mail & packages. Responding, as appropriate.

    2. Ensure all outgoing mail is sent in a timely fashion.

    3. Keep church records as required by the Book of Discipline of the United Methodist Church as well as those requested by the pastor.  Including: membership rolls (baptisms, weddings, marriages, & attendance), distribution lists, Church Conference Forms, etc.

    4. Maintain the Office Procedure Manuel, including file locations, routine office operations, vendor contact information & account numbers and account login information.

    5. Ordering office supplies.

    6. Other duties as assigned

*Completion of a child abuse prevention course (Safe Sanctuary Training) and background check are required before starting position.
